West Dean Masterclass - Botanical Installation - June 25th 2025

£157.00

Vegetal Metamorphosis - a masterclass in the orangery or, weather permitting, outside in the grounds.

I will be transforming waste and debris from the West Dean Gardens and wider estate into an impromptu and dramatic piece of land art.  I will demonstrate how to approach an alchemic transformation of discarded items into a site-specific botanical installation, inspired by the Salvador Dali painting, Vegetal Metamorphosis.

Booking via West Dean website only

The West Dean School of Conservation and School of Arts is nestled in the stunning Sussex countryside, near the South Downs and dates as far back as the Domesday book. This impressive estate was transformed during the mid-1930s by Edward James into an idiosyncratic retreat and surrealist extravaganza and now houses Salavador Dali's Lobster phone, Mae West Lips Sofa and an Andy Goldsworthy piece of land art outside in the grounds.

With extensive grounds and stunning gardens, you may decide to stay longer than just the day and add in their Bed and Breakfast option as well.

Just because. The roses are going crazy and it’s been a while since I allowed myself some time to do what I truly love 🥰. You can’t really see it here, but the dahlia-looking flower between the two Belle Epoque roses in the centre is act

In a month I’ll be wending my way down to the glorious @westdeancollege to immerse myself in the beautiful landscape ahead of my masterclass there on Weds 25th. I’ll be spending time outside, to just ‘be’ and let the terroir

Unbelievably it’s over a week since the garden gathering here, apologies for not posting sooner but the week got away from me.

Oh I know it’s overgrown, out of hand, overdue a good trimming back, the gutters are leaking and causing damp etc etc etc - but it’s pretty 🥴🫣. (My default answer to everything 😆)
