Through a variety of art forms I embrace imperfection, bringing new attention to the unwanted and celebrating the unexpected.

I see immense beauty in the faded, weathered and overlooked and have something of an obsession with rusty and found objects, discovering ever more ways to incorporate them into my work.

My practice has expanded considerably since my early days as a floral designer initally as Firenza Floral Design, then as Firenza Flowers. I still focus primarily on floral artistry but I’ve also come to incorporate a much wider range of other botanical and nature-based practices. The weirder the better frankly!

I mainly work on installations, commissions, exhibitions and workshops, but my practice doesn’t alway fit neatly into conventional ideas of ‘art’. I’m therefore open to interesting and unexpected opportunities that allow me to flex my creative muscles.

Sculpture & Installations

Primarily I create sculptures using natural botanical materials, while also incorporating other wider plant- & earth-based practices, including papermaking, flowers exposed to fire, weaving and natural dyeing.

I’ll always love creating installations, having designed and built them for well over a decade. Today, I primarily create for exhibitions or long-term events, having moved away from the fast-paced world of floral event work - where installations are built quickly and dismantled after a day.

My work is made slowly and deliberately. Each botanical sculpture or installation emerges from months of planning, sourcing and curating, before being constructed over days, sometimes longer. The process is closer to making a fine painting than creating something intended to exist for only a few hours.

Photography

Photography is a natural extension of my practice. Having designed and created an arrangement myself, I understand it’s nuances, particular sweeps of movement and small details and therefore, how best to translate these through photography in my Old Masters-inspired, chiaroscuro style. I’m often invited to work within other beautiful gardens - to represent their space by selecting materials and picking, then creating a design and photographing the result.

Bespoke imagery

I undertake commissions for imagery, including work for books, publications or merchandise, creating bespoke images for clients, whether for a particular project, publication, brand or collection. These can be developed around a specific brief, colour palette, botanical selection or mood, with the same considered approach that underpins the rest of my work. Cards & prints

I’ve curated a selection of cards and fine art prints from some of my favourite images, allowing some of the work to exist beyond the original arrangement.

Available in small collections and occasional limited editions, these are pieces to keep, frame, send or simply enjoy — a way of bringing a little of the botanical world into everyday life.

Many of the techniques I developed then have since become commonplace, but I still love to innovate, experiment and share what I’ve learnt.

Teaching is an important part of my practice, working with flower schools, individuals as well as private groups and travel internationally to share my knowledge and approach.

I first started using British-grown flowers at a time when it was rare not to use imported flowers, and designing sustainably and at scale was pretty much unheard of.

Over a decade ago I started to develop my own - often bodged together - techniques and strategies for creating dramatic installations and in 2017 I started hosting some of the first classes specifically focused on large-scale floral installations

From a career in high-end colour printing, working with top design agencies & global companies, to juggling the gamut of skills required to establish and develop my own thriving, ever-changing business, I’ve experienced many of the challenges that come with building a creative career of your own.

I’d love to help you navigate your own creative business transition - whether that’s finding your direction, developing your ideas, or uncovering ways of turning what you love into a business.

There are two main mentoring opportunities:

Private, one-to-one intensives

Focused mentoring sessions held in my home, tailored entirely to you and where you are in your creative journey. This can be a theoretical, finding your voice, or practical one or two day (or more) floral masterclass.

Small group mentoring

Intimate group sessions where I team up with Rachel of Catkin - we meet in Rachel’s therapy garden at Doddington Hall for Unearthing & the Pathway

My studio & Garden

I work from home - a tiny upstairs space which is always full of distractions and inspiration, the paper gets made outside in the ‘wet workshop’, where I can make as much mess as I need and I spread out into the house to create bigger, floral pieces and installations.
